Investigator Inês Fialho Brandão is pushing for the “necessity of studies on questions of provenance” of numerous artworks in Portuguese collections, amassed during the time of the Nazis.

The reason is to establish whether or not these artworks should be returned to the families from which they will have been taken.

Says Público, Brandão claims that the “inaction of the Portuguese government” in this regard has no parallel, and contrasts with investigations made by other governments, notably the Swedish and Swiss.
