Ninety-eight beaches in the Algarve have received ‘Gold Quality’ certification from environmental organisation Quercus. The accolade is awarded based on the quality of beach water, according to data provided by the Portuguese environmental agency (APA).

Albufeira is once again the borough with the highest number of ‘Gold Quality’ beaches in Portugal (22), followed by Almada (17), Vila Nova de Gaia (16), Vila do Bispo (13) and Torres Vedras (12).
