With prime minister António Costa visiting the Algarve today to cheer on fire prevention efforts ahead of the summer season, government sources have revealed there are still four million ‘ownerless properties’ up and down the country which constitute potential fire-hazards.

Due to the fact no owners can be found, the required ‘clearing’ of combustible material from land/ gardens has not been done.

“For this we have a real problem”, interior administration minister Eduardo Cabrita has admitted.
